Faith Academy football prepares for Temple Holy Trinity

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team will travel to Temple Holy Trinity at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, to compete in its final game of the season.
That’s because the Flames lost to Round Rock Christian 30-22 Oct. 27. The outcome means Faith is third in the Division II, District 3 standings of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, one place shy of advancing to the playoffs.
Faith defensive coordinator Jay Silvers noted both teams challenged each other from the start.
The Flames turned the ball over on downs on their opening drive, while the Crusaders scored a field goal to take a 4-0 lead. In six-man football, a field goal is worth four points.
Faith answered with a touchdown only to have Round Rock Christian add a score, too. By halftime the Crusaders led 18-7. The Flames’ lone touchdown came on a deep throw to freshman Wade Dillard that was almost 50 yards from quarterback Andrew Houy.
“He got out there and got behind the secondary and got a good pass,” the coordinator said.
During the intermission, the message was clear, he said.
“We were instilling in their heads that if we don’t win, we’re out of the playoffs,” he said. “Let’s end on a good note. Be smart with the ball.”
The Flames returned for the second half with renewed determination, Silvers said.
The Crusaders scored only once against the Faith defense. But their field goal kicker’s strong leg was a difference maker, the coordinator said, pointing out the Flames had blocked one of the field goal attempts.
“They have such a good field goal kicker,” Silvers said. “They only need to get to the 20, 25-yard line. He can kick 35-to-40-yard field goals. He made two or three.”
The Flames had two fumbles, two touchdowns taken off the scoreboard because of penalties, and officials didn’t award an onside kick to them.
“In the second half, we played a lot better,” Silvers said. “We did a lot to ourselves that we couldn’t overcome. The boys played a whole lot better.”
